Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts owes much of it's success to the many volunteers that have painted, built, ushered, promoted, sewn , loaded in the set and struck the show when finished.

Thanks so much for your help!

Ushers

Signup Genius

For every performance, we need 6 volunteers to serve as ushers.  Ushers are the first prople our patrons see when they come to a show.  We also need volunteers to sit at the will-call table. to hand out pre-purchased tickets to patrons as they arrive.

Ushers typically arrive 45 minutes to an hour prior to show time, and will-call volunteers must arrive 1 hour prior to show time.  Please note that other children should not be with you when you volunteer to usher, as they cannot be left unsupervised in the theater.

Ushers need to be at least 16 years old.  Before the audience is let in, 2 ushers will stand outside the theater doors to answer questions and maintain order in the lobby.  The other 4 ushers stay inside the theater making sure the playbills are ready to be handed out and that the the theater is tidy and ready for the audience.

Scene Shop Help

Signup Genius

We are always in need of help down at the scene shop, building set pieces, painting set pieces and gathering props for our many productions throughout the season.

No experience is necessary in order to work in the scene shop, and our "regulars" always have a great time putting the sets together.  Our Technical Director supervises and coordinates all the builds for our productions, making this a great opportunity for novices and experts alike!

The scene shop is open most days out of the week, typically 4 weeks prior to a production opening.  Shop hours will be posted on the Signup Genius website so that you can sign up to help whenever you can.

No one under age 13 is allowed in the shop.  Teenage volunteers (13-18) MUST be accompanied by a parent, unless otherwise approved by the Technical Director.

Committee Volunteers

Matthews Playhouse needs volunteers for all of our committees, which help with various aspects of keeping the theatre running.  We actively look to engage business professionals, parents, and members of our community to assist us in maintaining a "margin of excellence" in our programming
