Corlis Hayes as Fonsia Dorsey

 

Dr. Hayes has received numerous awards for her work. They include two Best Drama Awards from Creative Loafing: 2014's SIZWE BANSI IS DEAD (Carolina Actors Studio Theatre), and 2017's JITNEY (Brand New Sheriff Productions). She received a 2020 Broadway World Award (Best Play and Director) for FENCES, and a 2019 Metrolina Theatre Association Award (Best Play and Director) for TWO TRAINS RUNNING, both with Brand New Sheriff Productions. In 2022, she received another Metrolina Theatre Association Award (Best Director) for MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM. Born and raised in "The Gateway City" of St. Louis, Dr. Hayes now resides in Charlotte. She holds a PhD from Southern Illinois University, where she also received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Liberal Arts.

Andrew C. Roberts, also known as Drew or Andy, began his thespian career in high school and has since gained experience in both acting and technical support roles. His acting credits include stage roles in various plays and musicals, voiceover work, and film extras.

DENNIS DELAMAR (Narrator) –Directed our award-winning ONE YEAR TO DIE by Charles LaBorde last season and THE THURSDAY NIGHT BRIDGE CIRCLE by Ray Kennedy at Theatre Charlotte.  An MTA Best Director Award winner for Theatre Charlotte’s THE FULL MONTY and THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE and Actors Theatre of Charlotte’s THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL,  I AM MY OWN WIFE,  THE PILLOWMAN, and CLYBOURNE PARK,   Dennis is a veteran Charlotte actor, director, and retired NC public school teacher (former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Teacher of the Year).  Recent acting roles include Ben Franklin in 1776 for Belmont Abbey Players, Charlie in THE FOREIGNER for Players Circle Theatre in Fort Myers, Grandpa Vanderhoff in YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU at CPCC, and all the Male Adult Roles in SPRING AWAKENING at Theatre Charlotte. Can be seen as Margaret's mailman in the recent film ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET.   He will appear as Constantine Bouc in Theatre Charlotte’s upcoming MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS,  Oct 24 - Nov 9.   Dennis is delighted to be back at Matthews Playhouse working with some of his favorite fellow theatre artists.
