Matthews Playhouse is seeking highly qualified teachers in Acting, Music, and Dance to make our summer camps a success.  Camps are week-long, in-person* classes for ages 4-17 that all end in an onstage performance.  

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in theatre, music, or dance preferred

  • Experience and passion for working with children required

  • Write, develop, and execute lesson plans and scripts according to the theme of the camp

  • Collaborate with other teaching artists 

  • Mentor Summer Camp Interns (High School and College age students)

  • Maintain a safe learning environment through supporting student well-being, confidence, and personal growth

  • Manage classroom behavior, procedures, and assessments

  • Attend all required staff meetings/training sessions

*Please note that all camps are subject to transitioning to virtual instruction if we are unable to hold in person classes due to Federal, State, or Local restrictions.

Summer Camp Teaching Artists

Dates: January 9, 2023 - March 26, 2023

Times: Monday-Thursday evenings, some weekend rehearsals may be required

Matthews Playhouse is seeking highly qualified teachers in Acting, Music, and Dance to make our school of theatre classes and spring performances a success.  Classes meet one night a weekly through the end of February.  In March we transition to begin rehearsing the shows that each class will perform in.

School of Theatre Teaching Artists

Summer Camp Interns

Dates: June 5-August 18

Times: Monday-Friday 8:30 AM-4:30 PM

Matthews Playhouse is seeking interns passionate about Acting, Music, and Dance to make our summer camps a success. Camps are week-long, in-person classes for ages 4-17 that all end in an onstage performance.

Qualifications

  • Must be a 18+ or a high school Sophomore, Junior, Senior with 2 years minimum of experience under Matthews Playhouse Apprenticeship 

  • Interest or experience in the performing arts along with interest or experience in arts education and teaching

  • Ability to lead a classroom of 15 or more students independently

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to staff, students and parents while maintaining a safe environment through supporting student well-being, confidence, and personal growth

  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a collaborative environment

  • Flexibility, ability to work independently, willingness to take initiative

Daily Responsibilities

  • Assist and provide support to Lead Teaching Artists in the classroom. Classes range in discipline and include script writing, music, acting, and dance

  • Assist in day to day functions of camp, including student pick up & drop off and classroom management

  • Teaching or assisting teaching planned activities (example: teaching choreography, blocking scenes)

  • Assist with weekly sharings, whether it be through being backstage, helping write the

  • script or songs, helping to create props and costumes, supporting individual students, etc.

  • Actively work with students ages 4-17 in groups and lead groups in activities and games

Time Commitment:

● Camp runs from June 8th – August 18th, 2023 

● Minimum of 4 weeks of commitment with opportunities for additional weeks based on need and your availability

Compensation:

● $400 - $550 dollars a week, based upon experience and qualifications, paid weekly

Summer Camp Apprentices

Matthews Playhouse is seeking volunteer apprentices passionate about Acting, Music, and Dance to make our summer camps a success and gain valuable hands-on experience in theater education. Camps are week-long, in-person classes for ages 4-17 that all end in an onstage performance.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be minimum 11 years old, maximum age 17 years old

  • Interest or experience in the performing arts along with interest or experience working with children

  • Ability to be a leader and mentor to students in class

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to staff and students while maintaining a safe environment through supporting student well-being, confidence, and personal growth

  • Willingness to involve and engage with classroom instruction 

  • Flexibility, ability to work independently, willingness to take initiative

Daily Responsibilities

  • Assist and provide support to Lead Teaching Artists in the classroom. 

  • Assist in day to day functions of camp, including student pick up & drop off, bathroom breaks, snack & lunch time, and transitions 

  • Teaching or assisting teaching planned activities (example: teaching choreography, blocking scenes)

  • Assist with weekly sharings, whether it be through being backstage, helping write the

  • script or songs, helping to create props and costumes, supporting individual students, etc.

  • Assist with various tasks around the Matthews Playhouse office (example: organizing materials, creating name tags)

Time Commitment:

  • Camp runs from June 8th – August 18th, 2023 

  • Minimum of 2 weeks of commitment, full day (8:45 - 4:00) or half days (8:45 - 12:45). Full day commitment is preferred but not mandatory.
