Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts was founded in January 1995 to create a theatre for children in the Matthews area. The original Board of Directors consisted of parents, theatre professionals, and educators who sought to create a venue for young people to perform and experience quality theatre.

Thirty years later, Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts has become a powerhouse organization for Theatre entertainment and education. Offering five main stage productions annually, an entire School of Theatre for children TK-12, and numerous adult classes. Our small organization has thrived in Matthews, Charlotte, and the surrounding area, which we attribute to the outpouring of continued support from our patrons, volunteers, and theatre community.
