Local actors, singers and dancers of all backgrounds, ethnicities and skill levels are encouraged to audition for ‘Hello, Dolly!’, the final production of the 2022-2023 season at Matthews Playhouse.
(Matthews, NC) Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts is seeking a diverse mix of youth and adult actors, singers, and dancers as well as performers with specialty skills like gymnastics, magic, etc. to audition for its summer musical, Hello, Dolly! May 7th & 8th. This musical adaptation of Thornton Wilder's hit play The Matchmaker bursts with humor, romance, energetic dance and some of the greatest songs in musical theatre history. Performances for Hello, Dolly! are July 14 - 30, 2023. Actors must be available for all performances.
Available Roles (all roles are non-union and unpaid)
MRS. DOLLY GALLAGHER LEVI - female, a widow, 40- 50’s local matchmaker in Yonkers, NY
ERNESTINA MONEY - female, any size, any shape, any age
AMBROSE KEMPER - male, An artist, in love with Ermengarde age 30ish
HORACE VANDERGELDER - male, A wealthy curmudgeon 40-60
ERMENGARDE - female, Horace’s niece. 18 – early 20’s
CORNELIUS HACKL - male, Horace’s chief clerk. Single. 25-35
BARNABY TUCKER - male, Asst Clerk. younger than Cornelius- early 20’s
IRENE MOLLOY - female, a widow- runs a hat shop in NYC early 30’s. matches Cornelius
MINNIE FAY - female, Irene’s assistant – 19-20’s young- matches Barnaby
MRS. ROSE - female, any age- chorus
RUDOLPH - male, Head Waiter at the Harmonia Gardens (doubles as chorus)
JUDGE - Doubles as chorus
COURT CLERK - Doubles as chorus
ENSEMBLE/CHORUS - ages 14 and up, adults and teenagers who can perform as adults, singers/dancers
CHILDREN'S CHORUS - ages 6-10, chorus only
Auditions will be held in person in the Matthews Community Center, 100 E McDowell Street in Matthews, NC. Interested actors are invited to sign up for an audition slot on Sunday, May 7th from 2:00pm-5:00pm or Monday, May 8th 6:30 pm-9:00pm.Tentative callbacks will be on Tuesday, May 9th 6:30 pm-9:00 pm. Rehearsals will begin in early June and are generally held on Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturday or Sunday afternoons/evenings.
Additional Details
All auditionees should prepare 16 bars of music to sing from a musical (music does NOT need to be from "Hello Dolly"). All auditionees are required to provide their own sheet music. No acapella or CD auditions will be allowed.
Actors should come prepared to move or bring a change of clothes. Some auditionees will be asked to stay and dance after their vocal audition.
Some auditionees may be asked to cold read from the show. Sides will be provided at auditions.
Actors should plan to stay longer than their half hour slot allotted on the sign-up.
