Matthews Playhouse Announces Pay-What-You-Can Performance for ‘Hello, Dolly!”



Pay-What-You-Can Performance of the Timeless Broadway Classic, ‘Hello, Dolly!” Will Be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27th (Doors Open at 6:30 p.m.) A Portion of the Proceeds Will Benefit Matthews Help Center.


(Matthews, NC)—As part of its mission to make the performing arts more accessible to the community, Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts is proud to offer a Pay-What-You-Can performance of the blockbuster Broadway hit, Hello, Dolly!, on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Not only does this Pay-What-You-Can performance make theatre more accessible to the local community, Matthews Playhouse will donate a large portion of the proceeds to Matthews Help Center, a local non-profit that provides short-term crisis assistance to the Greater Matthews community.


“Our ‘Pay-What-You-Can Performances’ are our gift back to the community that has given us so much through the years”, says Matthews Playhouse Executive Director, Sarah Baumgardner. “It’s a great opportunity to take family and friends to a high-quality production that, in my opinion, rivals most professional touring companies that come to our region for a very affordable price.”

The beloved Tony Award winning musical transports audiences to the late nineteenth-century Yonkers, NY with captivating performances and unforgettable musical numbers accompanied by live musicians and dazzling choreography worthy of any Broadway stage. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Seating is first come/first serve is based on availability. Audience members should arrive early as seating is based on availability and advanced reservations will not be taken. A suggested donation of $10 per person will be collected at the door (regular ticket prices are between $18-$26) but the amount of the donation is up to the audience member, whether it's $5, $10, $20 or more. ​Cash and credit cards will be accepted, if you plan to pay with cash, please be prepared with exact change.

Hello, Dolly! has been widely praised by critics since its original Broadway debut and has received numerous awards over the years, including ten Tony Awards for the original production and additional awards for subsequent revivals. NBC New York describes Hello, Dolly! “as blissful an escape as anyone could want” while Variety describes the show as “the quintessential Broadway musical, the kind of audience-pleaser that will never go out of fashion.”

Matthews HELP Center is supported annually through sales in our Backporch Treasures Thrift Boutique and the generosity of individuals, families, foundations, area churches and businesses.
