It's time for an exciting new season of creativity and growth at Matthews Playhouse! This December, we’re kicking off a fresh lineup of acting and musical theatre classes designed specifically for teens, children (and adults too!).
Whether your child is stepping onto the stage for the first time or looking to build on their skills, our classes offer something for everyone. With engaging instruction from experienced professionals, students will explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop their talents in a fun and supportive environment. School of Theatre Winter Session - Grades TK- 12
Hurry - classes Start in early December 2024! Our programs for students in grades K-12 offer a fun, supportive environment where young performers can build their skills and create lasting memories. With specialized classes for teens and young performers in acting, musical theatre, dance, and tech theatre, students will hone their skills while building lifelong friendships. Students who have completed our Fall 2024 and/or Winter 2025 classes will be invited to audition for our Spring 2025 School of Theatre Student Productions to be performed on stage at the historic Fullwood Theatre inside the Matthews Community Center.
NEW Art & Musical Theatre Homeschool Classes - Ages 4-15
Hurry - classes Start in early December 2024! Our weekly homeschool classes are tailored specifically for homeschooled children ages 4-15, offering a unique opportunity to explore the exciting world of art and musical theatre in a supportive and engaging environment. Each session nurtures creativity, builds confidence, and fosters collaboration through age-appropriate activities.
"KiDS" Holiday Workshop - For Neurodivergent Kids Ages 7-16
Happening Sunday, December 8, 2024! This special "KiDS" (Kids with Disabilities in the Spotlight) workshop invites neurodivergent kids to explore theater arts in a festive, inclusive environment. Led by Sarah Howe, participants will enjoy theater games, music, and movement to build social skills, confidence, and creativity; space is limited, so register now!
NEW! Introducing Kids' Night Out - Grades 1-5!
Enjoy Scrooge! The Musical while we take care of the kids! For just $40 per child, our Kids' Night Out add-on includes movies, popcorn, crafts, dinner, and more. Drop off your child at 6 p.m., and pick them up at 10 p.m. Available for evening performances on December 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st.
Private Vocal Lessons - Ages 8+, Teens & Adults
Coming back in January 2025! Want to take your singing and performance skills to a new level this winter? We offer Foundational and Advanced lessons for ages 8 and up, plus NEW Pre-Professional lessons for adults and students 16+.
Musical Theatre Dance Workshop - Ages 8–12 & 13–17
Featuring a Cast Member from Hamilton!
Coming January 20, 2025! This one-day workshop is part of our new Matthews Playhouse Studio Series, led by theater professionals—including a cast member from the touring production of Hamilton! Young performers will develop audition skills, learn choreography, and gain exclusive behind-the-scenes insights from the pros, featuring firsthand guidance from a Broadway performer.
Musical Theatre "Camp"...For Adults! - Adults Ages 18+
Friday Nights February 7- March 14, 2025! Join our weekly Adult Musical Theatre Camp, open to adults ages 18+ of all experience levels. Whether you're a seasoned performer, new to musical theater, or rekindling a love for the stage, this specialty camp offers something for everyone. Participants will collaborate with a director, choreographer, and music director to create a revue performance for an invited audience.
Matthews Playhouse Mini-Camps Grades K - 3 & 4 - 6!
Returning in January 2025! Our one-day mini camps happen in conjunction with some of the teacher workdays and holidays on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Union County school calendars. Each camp will have themed activities with a theater focus:
Wizard World (Jan 24): Young wizards will explore the magic of Witchcraft and Wizardry in a one-day adventure featuring house sorting, wand crafting, spell-making, and acting out magical scenes.
Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (Feb 17): Dive into a world of imagination in this mini-camp, where students act, sing, and dance as their favorite characters, plus enjoy an exclusive backstage tour of the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory set at Matthews Playhouse.
Just Dance! (Mar 31): Campers will dance the day away, following fun routines from on-screen games and learning choreography from a professional, no experience needed.
NEW! Lion King Spring Break Camp - Grades K-3 & 4–6
Coming April 14 - 18, 2025 (for CMS students) & April 21- 25, 2025 (for Union County students)! This week-long camp is the perfect way for kids who enjoy acting, singing, and dancing to spend spring break! Campers will work to create a Lion King-themed show, featuring songs and scenes from the beloved movie and taught by theater professionals.
