Matthews Playhouse Introduces One-Day Mini Camps and New Satellite Location in Kannapolis!


Due to popular demand, Matthews Playhouse has expanded its theatre education offerings for the 2022-2023 school year!


NEW One-Day Mini Camps!

For the first time in our history, we will be offering One-Day Mini Camps for grades K-3 and 4-6th that will happen in conjunction with teacher workdays on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school calendar. Each camp will have themed activities with a theater focus. The camps this year are as follows:


September 26th - Lion King Mini Camp (REGISTER NOW)

October 31st - Spooky Stories

November 8th - Hamilton (Election Day!)

January 25th - Toy Story

February 20th - Seussical

March 27th - Sing!

NEW Satellite Location in Kannapolis!

Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts is excited to announce we will be offering 8-week acting classes for 3rd-12th grade students in Kannapolis this Fall! Classes will start the week of Wednesday September 28th and continue through November 16th. Actor/teacher Lakeetha Blakeney will be teaching the classes. Family and friends are invited to watch what we have learned on the last day of class during the regular class time.

Acting Grades 3-5

Time: 5:30- 6:30 p.m.

Dates: September 28 October 5, 12, 19, 26 November 2, 9,16

This acting class is specially designed for 3-5 grade students. Students will participate in a wide variety of theatre activities—including improvisation, scene study designed to increase spontaneity, engage the imagination, promote self-confidence, and encourage ensemble spirit. Family and Friends are invited to share what we have learned on the last day of class during the regular class time.


Acting Grades 6-8

Time: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Dates: September 28 October 5, 12, 19, 26 November 2, 9,16

We welcome Middle School students who are drawn to the stage. Actors will use improvisation, character building, and script reading to grow and develop as actors and to improve both audition and performance skills. Family and Friends are invited to share what we have learned on the last day of class during the regular class time.


Acting Grades 9-12

Time: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Dates: September 28 October 5, 12, 19, 26 November 2, 9,16

High School students who want to increase their repertoire are invited to join this class. We will focus on techniques proven to help students increase their skills when performing (including auditioning). Students will rehearse scenes, use improvisation, play theatre games, to increase concentration, character development, and confidence needed to be more dynamic on the stage. Family and Friends are invited to share what we have learned on the last day of class during the regular class time.
